The Carrick CCTV project campaign was launched this recently. The estimated cost of the project for 11 cameras at strategic locations in town is €110,000 and grant aid of up to €40,000 is possible under a community group CCTV scheme. This leaves a shortfall of €70,000. A not for profit company Carrick Community CCTV Ltd has been established with an advising community committee comprising business, residential, local authority, licenced vintners, Gardaí and public representatives. A gofundme page has been set up to help raise the €70,000 required and your support is needed. On Thursday, 17th, we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the 1917 visit of the popular historical figure, Michael Collins, to the Bush Hotel during his visit to the North West. On 17 August 1917 Michael Collins stayed in our Room 1 – now called the Michael Collins’ Room! The room has recently been sensitively decorated with Michael Collins’ memorabilia and items of the era. We are a heritage-boutique hotel in the centre of Carrick-on-Shannon – if you would like more information click here or phone 071 9671000 to enquire about staying in Room 1 – the actual room where Michael Collins stayed!
