The Bush Hotel opened its doors under the current ownership and management in March 1993 with 11 employees. Today the Hotel employs c.60 people from 14 countries including 8 of the original 11 from 1993! In fact the Bush Hotel has one of the highest retention (..and lowest absenteeism ) rates in the country and this we attribute to our strong HR ethos and policies. Our prerequisite is a healthy and safe work workplace with an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. Inclusion, consultation, respect, empowerment, recognition and reward are hallmarks of our policy and we involve our employees at all times in decision making and empower them to bring their ideas to fruition.
We are large enough to provide a varied range of opportunities but small enough for you to make your mark! Some work behind the scenes, some work front of house, but all are committed to excellence in customer care and standards. In this context we encourage and support personal and professional development both in-house and externally. Employee welfare both inside and beyond the workplace is central to our policy. We support flexible working arrangements and healthy work life balance, family fun days. We encourage dialogue and discussion (often with a bit of banter!) and operate an open door policy at all times. We recognize also while work must be fulfilling there must also be fun! In this context we support (and participate!) in the employees social club and their activities and various other social events and team building activities.
Staff at the Bush Hotel organise many exciting and thrilling activities for all employees. Organised by the Sports & Social Club, activities include Zipit at Lough Key Forest Park, Quad Biking, Arigna Mining Experience, an Evening at the Races and other social evenings.
The Bush Hotel regularly holds English classes for its non-national employees. Emphasis is on Hotel/Guest English and there has been fantastic interest and attendance at the classes. It is hoped that this commitment will continue and this will be a huge success. Various flags representing the identity of our 60 hard-working, conscientious employees from 14 different countries are to be found in our newly refurbished Reception Area. Subject to availability family members of employees are encouraged to participate.

We are active participants in the Job Shadow Initiative which is dedicated to giving people with disabilities a unique opportunity to ‘shadow’ a workplace mentor (company employee) as he or she goes about a normal day at work. The ultimate goal of the Job Shadow Initiative is to mobilise the employment of people with disabilities, while raising awareness around Supported Employment.
